blech

i think i'm coming down with something. either that or my pmt is finding very silly ways of expressing itself. i'd best distract myself with a pic of some cheerful socks:

my toes look even pointier than normal (if that's even possible) in that picture! try to see past that and focus on the near-identical match of the stripes. i started the socks at the exact same place in the striping sequence, but because i knit the cuff on the second sock on smaller needles than the first one, there's a small difference. not too noticeable, though:

specs
pattern: jaywalker by grumperina in magknits
yarn: vesper sock yarn from knitterly things in paisley colourway
needles: 2.25mm surina wood dpns
mods: grafting schmafting - i closed the toes with my usual 3-needle bindoff. also, as mentioned above, i used 2mm needles on the cuff of the second sock, because the first one flared a little. it helped. there are also an unknown amount of unintentional mods, as my shortterm memory apparently is comparable to that of a goldfish, resulting in me either doing the decs and incs on subsequent, not alternate, rows, or simply not doing them at all.

i have a little bit of yarn left, so i could have made the leg some repeats longer, which i would have preferred. for my next pair (gasp!) i will try the pattern toe-up so i can knit until i run out of yarn.

what is wrong with me? i never want to do a pattern twice. there's something strange with this pattern - just look at cara; she's up to double digits soon - it is just so brilliant in combination with self-striping or variegated yarn that you can't help yourself, you need to try it one more time to see if it's as gorgeous in another yarn.

a couple of weeks ago tracy posted about her fabulous jaywalkers and i couldn't help myself; before i knew it i'd ordered the exact yarn in the exact colourway she used:

this is sock yarn from curious yarns in the budgie colourway. you get a 75g skein for the main colour and a 25g one for cuffs, heels and toes. so cute! so cute, in fact, that i had to get the stone colourway as well:

people really need to stop making sock yarn. i know i can't stop myself from buying it, so people will just have to stop making it.
