seven small hats to send to amelia!

i seem to have misplaced my pompom maker, so instead i wrapped yarn around a ruler and created rather scruffy wannabes. the pompom maker will definitely turn up within hours after these hats are in the mail.

in addition to knitting 26 stitch hats i have slowly started seaming my tailored jacket. the left half is finished; i am dreading doing the right half as it was hard getting the sleeve seam to look nice with all that texture going on.

i still haven't decided which buttons to use. the cardi in the booklet uses these cute little leather buttons, like these ones i found in my stash - picked off some garment or other by my nan many years ago:


the size is perfect, the colour is not. brown is not the way to go, but what colour is? i've looked for similar buttons in town, but have only found them in brown and black, neither of which works here. any suggestions? keep in mind that in addition to the eight front buttons there's one on each epaulette and three on each sleeve cuff, so they will be quite noticeable.
